The
Regal Angelfish Pygoplites diacanthus is one of the most striking angelfish to
behold. It is the only member of the genus Pygoplites, which is part of the
greater family of angelfish, Pomacanthidae. A regal angelfish attracts the eye
with alternating bands of striking color on its body and fins. It will reach around 9.8” in length and is
adorned with white and orange stripes edged in blues and blacks.
The
Regal Angelfish is more difficult to maintain than other species of angels so
it should be introduced first so that it may stake out its territory in advance
of other fish.
It
can be found throughout the Northern and Western Indian Ocean, the Red Sea , and the Indo- Pacific Ocean.
In
the aquarium feed a varied diet. Food like red nori seaweed (Seaweed Selects
from Ocean Nutrition), marine algae, mysis shrimp and chopped krill work well.
